When the cold weather brings a chill, the crafty girl's mind turns to leg warmers! These perenniel favorites are an awesome way to look totally stylish, and keep toasty warm too. Wear your DIY legwarmers over jeans or tights, and let the fashion envy begin. Just follow these simple instructions from Myjellybean.com to create your newest winter accessory. We've got a no-sew version for beginning crafters, and a sew-cute option for those who are comfy with a needle and thread (or sewing machine).
-Sweatpants, or a sweatshirt, that you longer need
-Scissors
Grab your sweatpants and cut the legs off several inches above the knee. (Or, for shorter and less baggy leg warmers, cut the arms off a sweatshirt several inches above the elbow). That's it - just flip them over and pull them on (cuff first if you used sweatpant legs). You've got a cute new accessory, and it only took a few minutes!
-Tape measure
-Fun winter-weight fabric like faux fur, neon colored fur, tweed, cableknit, or whatever fabric you love (get at the fabric store)
-Elastic for creating cuffs
-Needle and thread (or sewing machine)
Measure your legs from the knee down, to figure out how much fabric you need to buy. Remember to multiply by two (to cover both legs!) and add a few extra inches for cuffs. Then measure and cut your fabric pieces.
Working on the inside-out side, use your needle and thread (or sewing machine) to double over the top of each leg warmer. You're creating a pocket for the elastic band which will be your cuff, and help the leg warmers stay up when you wear them. Once you are done sewing the pockets, thread elastic through and tie in a knot.
With the fabric still inside-out, sew the ends of the leg warmer fabric together, to make a tube.
Turn your leg warmers right-side out and try them on!
