Candy Colored Lips
While this trend can look cute on fair-skinned girls, it really rocks on medium and darker skin tones. All it takes is one product, too! Just swipe on a bold, bright lipstick in fabulous fuchsia, commanding coral or vava-voom violet. Keep the rest of your face totally bare - with no makeup whatsoever. Make bright lipstick last longer by coloring in the lips first with a matching-color lip pencil, and blotting with a one-ply tissue before doing a second coat. (And if you want to dabble in the bright lip trend, but don't feel gutsy enough to pull off this attention-grabbing effect, choose a sheer lip-gloss in one of these shades to achieve a more wearable look).
Angel Face
This spring-ready look is low on the makeup, but high on the radar. It's all about playing up the natural beauty of your face with touches of pearly shimmer. Start with freshly washed and moisturized skin. Apply a neutral-colored shimmer eyeshadow in cream or beige (such as Benefit's Show Off Powder in Miss Moon). Sweep fingertips across the shadow in the pot, and pat it along cheekbones, up to temples and along browbones, sweeping fingertips in a "U" from inner cheeks to above the eyes. Play up lashes with one coat of mascara, and keep lips natural with a sheer gloss or lip balm.
Pink Lady
Think pink for spring, and you're right on trend. The great thing about pink makeup is that it works for every skin tone. Keep it simple by using a multi-tasking makeup stick (such as NARS The Multiple Multi-Purpose Stick) to apply a soft layer of rosy pink on eyes, cheeks and lips. Do hot pink on fingernails to punch up the look, or leave them bare to tell people "I'm a natural girl".
Eye Make A Statement
This spring is putting a spotlight on eyes in a made-up face. If you're into makeup, why not try a daytime-friendly smoky eye? You'll need two eyeshadows to do this look, one beige and one medium brown. Apply the beige shadow all over eyes, from lashes to brows. Then go over lids with the medium brown color, stopping it in the crease. Reach for a dark brown eyeliner pencil and trace a thin line along upper lids from inner to outer corners, staying as close to lash-lines as possible. Go over lines with fingertips or a Q-tip to blend. Use a thin eyeshadow brush or Q-tip to line lower lashes with your medium brown shadow. Apply one or two coats of dark brown or black mascara and you're good to go.
Note: When bringing focus to the eyes, groomed brows are a must-do. Swipe yours into place and hold them there with some clear mascara. Use tweezers to get rid of any straggly hairs, but otherwise leave them alone - a heavier brow looks awesome this season.
Rock Chick Eyes
What rocks more than the clashing of light and dark? This spring trend is for the rocker in you. Depending on your daytime routine (and school rules), it probably works best for evening. Start by applying a metallic peacock-blue shadow (such as Urban Decay shadow in Flipside) all over eyelids. Then line top and bottom lash-lines with a deep blue or indigo eye pencil, blending it outward a bit to achieve that "cat's eye" effect. Curl lashes and give them a coat of black mascara. Dab a sheer cherry-red gloss on lips and you're ready to rule.
