Dear Jellybean,

I'm 15 and a singer/songwriter, okay so just the songwriter. But I want to sing so badly. The only time I ever do sing is when I do karaoke with friends, but I never use my 'real' singing voice.

I'm confident in everything I do, except music, which sucks because I love that more than anything. I've asked my mom for singing lessons, but she said no, as when she asked when I was her age her mom said no. I've tried practicing on my own at home, but my brother and sister banned me from singing on the top floor on in the basement (where they usually are) because I'm too loud. I tried practicing on the main floor, but my mom continually critiques every little thing I do, and then she'll sing it the way she believes it's supposed to be sung and keep going while not letting me try it myself. So since then, I've stopped trying to sing.

I so badly want to sing, because I've been writing songs for three years. And I honestly believe I have something worth listening to. I realize the only way I can do this is by confronting my family, but I don't know how! What do I say and do? And what can I do to become more confident in my own skin and sing in front of people?
