Dear Jellybean,
I'm 17 and I don't have a Facebook. I never wanted one before because I thought it was stupid and unsafe. I planned to make one next year when I went away to college so I could keep in touch with my friends. I changed my mind, though and decided I should make one now. Everything they do is planned on Facebook, so I usually get excluded. Even before the Facebook craze I was always the one getting excluded and it seems silly to intentionally exclude myself when I can just make a Facebook account. The problem is I don't feel comfortable giving out my full name and date of birth, which they say is just for safety reasons. I thought about using a fake last name, but then people wouldn't be able to find me and it would look stupid. How can I be safe and keep in touch with my friends?
