Imagine how great you'd feel knowing that you helped build a home for a poor family to live in!
Habitat for Humanity is an organization that builds houses for poor people in local communities. Habitat has built more than 200,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1,000,000 people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.
Habitat for Humanity is not just a charity either. It's about helping needy people to help themselves! Habitat organizes volunteer workers, and raises donations, to build new homes, and upgrade others, with the help of needy families.The family who gets the house invest Needy families invest hundreds of hours of their own labour into building their Habitat house, and the houses of others.
When a family makes a monthly payment on their Habitat house, it's used to build more new Habitat houses. So every time a poor family gets a new home, they help to fund another poor family's new house. That's the circle of giving. It's so smart!
