Volunteer at a Library

E-mail Print PDF

Do you love books? Want to share your passion with others? Volunteering at your local library may be a great experience for you!

You can make a real difference in your community by volunteering at a library. Not to mention, it's a great place to gain valuable work experience, and earn your community service hours for school.

Ready to make a difference?

If you've got the time, your local library probably has a volunteer position for you. Many libraries need extra (volunteer) help to maintain their collections, provide services, and run community programs.

What Do Volunteers Do?

Teen volunteers at the library might do a variety of different tasks. These could include reshelving books and DVDs, covering paperback books, running children's programs, helping younger kids with homework, and assisting library staff and the public.

How to Get Started

Contact your public library branch for information about volunteer opportunities in your area.

Not sure where your nearest library is? Look up "Libraries" in your Yellow Pages.

You can also search for local library websites in your country:

Canadian library websites

U.S. public libraries

International libraries
