Provide hope for a domestic violence victim by providing her with basic items she needs to care for herself and her children.
According to the American Institute on Domestic Violence, 5.3 million women are abused every year. Those who do manage to flee their abusive environments often have to make a sudden escape - there's no time to pack an overnight bag, or even to grab a toothbrush.
Providing care-packages for women who have escaped from domestic violence can make a huge difference to them, for relatively little effort on your part.
What items are needed?
Collect a care-package of personal-care products, such as shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, hairbrushes, shower gel, etc. You can buy inexpensive travel-sized items at drugstores and supermarkets, or buy items on sale or in bulk packs. For relatively little money, you can gather enough items to create create care packages for more than one battered woman.
You can get others involved, and make an even bigger difference, by asking friends, family and neighbors to buy and set-aside a few things foryour care-package project, each time they go shopping. To make it an event, get them all together to sort items and create groupings with one of everything.
