Dear Jellybean,

There’s this guy that I really like. I first met him when I was a freshman, and him a sophomore. It was sort of an on-and-off again crush, so I wasn’t really sure if I truly liked him. By the end of my freshman year I was crushing on him so hard. He was showing signs too. He would always stare at me and say really stupid things around me by accident. We also go to the same church so I saw him with his family every Sunday and our moms know each other. You could just tell that he liked me. All of my friends told me to get him number, but I was too afraid. So finally on the last day of school I got the courage to ask him. The only problem was he had left school before I could find him. So I went the whole summer without seeing him and wondering what would have happened if I hadn’t been such a coward and gotten his number before it was too late.

Now I’m a sophomore. At the beginning of the school year I was really excited to see him again. My feelings for him grew SO MUCH over the summer, and I realized this was serious crush (he’s the only one I’m capable of crushing on. No one else attracts me anymore). In the first few weeks of school we kept looking at each other in the hall and obvious something was wanted to be said from both of us. He’s a really shy reserved guy so I didn’t really expect him to do anything. After a while he stopped looking at me, but my feelings for him keep growing stronger and the more I try to repress it I fail and just feel even more sad. I’m afraid he’s moved on and completely left me hanging. I at least need a closure! I’m scared that he’s found someone else, while I’m just waiting around for some miracle to happen and we talk. (This hasn’t been since spring of ’08. Its now winter of ’09).

What should I do? I’m not ready for this to be over and I still like him a lot and all of my friends say we’d look so cute together. It’s becoming an obsession (which I know is bad), but I just need to talk to him and close this or hopefully start something. I’m SO confused about what to do! Please help! Thanks?

Dear LACM,

You have had an entire drama going on with this guy... and it's all been in your head! That is the very definition of an obsession. All those feelings you guess he has for you, liking you, then not liking you, etc... it's all something you made up. He has no idea, and may not have had any of those feelings in reality!

So what should you do? You really only have one choice, if you're tired of obsessing with nothing happening. That is, to ask him out. If you're nervous, invite him to a coed group outing, like a party at your place, a bunch of girls and guys going to a weekend movie, or whatever. Or seek him out at the school dance, and ask him to slow dance with you.

But do something. Because until you do, all of this remains in your own head, and not in reality. And that's no fun for anyone!
