Dear Jellybean,

Hi, I have a question about teasing. This is my first year at a new school, and I'm not used to it yet. The kids at my old school, though I didn't fit in with them, respected me as a human being. The girls at my new school are okay, but the guys are cocky and rude. At the beginning of the year, one boy picked on me and it escalated until he threw a lock at my locker and it hit my forehead. I started crying (well, it hurt!) and swore at him and hit him, and after that, he left me alone. I now realize that letting it go on for so long wasn't the right thing to do, but now other boys have followed his example. He has left me alone, though. I guess they pick on me because I'm really petite and not intimidating at all. I have friends, though, who stick up for me, but none of them are in my class, so it's hard. Today when I was packing up at the end of the day to go home, this disgusting boy came behind my and grabbed me by the waist and picked me up. I figured it was my best friend (she does things like that) so I didn't even bother looking. When I turned around though, and saw that it was him, I freaked. I swore at him and he apologized insincerely. I am so sick and tired of boys thinking they can push me around because I don't look strong and intimidating. I have tried fighting back (physically and verbally), I have tried ignoring it, and I have threatened to tell on them. Nothing seems to work, and I'm scared it's going to escalate if I don't stop it. Thanks for all your help, Jellybean.

Dear Writer,

You are a petite girl getign ganged up on physically by boys. You need to report this IMMEDIATELY to the school office. No more threats - it's time to take action. Your school has a legal and moral responsibility to prevent violence against its students - so march right to the office and tell them what has been going on.

To help them take your report seriously, I suggest making a detailed list first, in writing, of when each incident occured (beginning with the first), which students were involved, and exactly what happened. Stick to the basic facts, and give this to the principal, to aid him/her in following up on your report. Also inform your parents of what has been happening, and that you have gone to the school office, so they can back you up too, if need be.

Do not worry about what could happen with the guys, after you make the report. From what you say, their violence has already escalated, and it will probably get worse on its own if you and the school doesn't do something to stop it. Go now - do not delay - and hopefully these guys will get what is coming to them.
