Dear Writer,
Uh, no. Your friend is not trying to make you jealous. You are doing that all by yourself. (Your friend is just being friendly to someone who she likes. And, news flash - she has every right to do that). If you continue to get all worked up over this, and start planning nutty things like playing mind games to make her feel jealous/bad, you really will risk losing your friend.
Look, I get it. It can be threatening when someone new comes along, bats their eyes at your BFF, and you watch your friend go traipsing after them. But the thing is, nothing has changed between you and your friend. She's just attracted to the novelty of this person, as are all those other poeple who are copying her style. It's kind of like your school has a celebrity guest this week, and everyone wants to be close to her, because she's shiny and new, thus interesting.
But this doesn't have to mess up your social scene. As I see it, you have a couple of choices here. The first, which I'm recommending, is that you can decide to become friends with this new girl, or at least be friendly to her. You don't have to join her fan club or anything, but you'd look really confident if you went out of your way to be nice. As long as you are unfriendly or rude to her, you'll just look petty and intimidated, and your friends who like her could start to get tired of your behavior.
So invite your BFF and the new girl to do something together with you, like come over to your place after school, go shopping, see a movie, or whatever. Make it about you letting her into your crowd, not about you sitting around fuming, because she and your BFF are friends. Even if the new girl isn't your favourite person, give her a chance to grow on you, and show your BFF that you can be friendly to her. Because if you don't, you might force your BFF to choose between you and the new girl, and ultimatums are just not a good idea when it comes to friendships.
