Epiphany

Have you ever woken up and just lain there with your eyes open, and realized, I really want to do this? This is what I'm supposed to do? Maybe not. But if you are one of the lucky ones to wake up and experience it, it's like nothing before.

Really, it happened to me. The best word to describe it is an epiphany. I want to be an author. It took me so long to figure that out, and now it hit me like a bolt of lightning. I've been writing stories ever since I was in first grade. They weren't really good. Just the writings of an overactive six year old mind. But soon I found that my stories were becoming more advanced, and much more interesting to read.

But it was seriously like being hit by a train when I realized it. I had been asked to help clean the attic (I grumbled), and I found a crate of my old papers from school. For the most part, the top layer was just silly pictures that I had drawn. But as I dug deeper, I pulled out sheet after sheet of saved stories. I think I actually started to cry. The ironic part was that I had been working on a story before I was asked to clean the attic. But before it had been simply for fun.

And then seeing these stories - so many on the floor beside my feet, crying - I just knew that someday I would write at least one novel or story. I had to. Now, I'm always typing on the computer, constantly thinking and shaping my characters into life, until I literally dream about them in my sleep, draw them on the corner of my page, and tell my friends about them.

The point I'm trying to get at though, is that sometimes you don't have a set dream. Let's face it; not everyone is born gifted, or born knowing what their life is going to be about. Many actors and singers claim that they had always believed they would become famous. In some cases, that may be true. But I think some of them fib a little. Most of the time, it just dawns on you that you have a talent, and you really want to put it to the test.

Right now, on this very page (whether anyone sees it or not) I pledge to publish a book. I know it's possible, and even when I'm upset I write. It's part of my life, and I hope I'll make it a part of everyone else's too.
