Don't Put It In Writing
It might be freaky, but asking him out in person is best. An email or text can easily be misread (he could think you're just wanting to hang out as friends), or forwarded to a dozen people. Besides, if you ask him in person, he'll get a reminder of how cute and friendly you are.
Pick The Best Place
You'll want to talk to your crush when he's alone. If your friends (or his) are around, he might feel embarrassed by all the attention. Approach him when he's solo - catch him after school on the way home - and start the convo with a simple, "Hey, how are you?"
What To Say
Be relaxed. You don't want him to think you've been plotting this moment for weeks, even if you have. Just say something low-key and friendly, such as, "Hey, want to hang out with me on Friday and get something to eat?"
What He Says... And What To Do Next
If he says yes - congrats! You've got a date. If you don't have his number, now's the time to get it. Tell him you'll call him the day before, to figure out the when-and-where. And don't go telling all your friends - you'll freak him out.
If he says he's busy, or he's not sure, don't take it personally. He has a life after all, so he's not necessarily rejecting you. Just suggest another night. But if he says he's busy again, and doesn't suggest another time that works, take it as a no.
If he says no, be laid-back about it. Just say, "Okay, I thought it might be fun. See you around!" Then split. He'll never be sure whether you were actually asking him for a date, so you won't feel awkward around him in the future.
