CONVINCING PARENTS TO LET HER SWITCH SCHOOLS

Dear Jellybean,

I have some problems. I go to this school that I really don’t like and all my friends go to this school Mandalay. And it’s a really cool school with really cool people in it. I shadowed my friend Mallory at her school one day and I loved it!! I really wanna go, but the problem is, I cant get my parents to let me transfer cuz they think that it’s a bad school and the academic isnt good at all. But I REALLY wanna go! How can I get my parents to let me go!?! Thanx.

Dear Sammie,

You've got an advantage now - you know what's important to your folks. Namely, its academic standing. So take that knowledge and use it! Ask your parents if they would be willing to go to a meeting at the school you want to attend, to learn more about what it has to offer academically. Explain that you're willing to set up the meeting yourself, because you want them to give you a chance to show them that it's a good school that might just meet their high standards for you. Hopefully they'll be impressed with your initiative! If they say they'd be willing to hear what the school has to say about itself, call the school's administrative office (you can find the number in your local phone book) and explain what you're trying to do. Your parents are right to be concerned about academic standards, so this will only work if the school really is a good one and can meet their expectations. But it's worth a try!
