DUMP ONE DATE FOR ANOTHER?

Dear Jellybean,

A couple of days ago i got asked to my schools homecoming dance by a really sweet and cute guy. I said yes, because all my other friends had dates to the dance too. But really, i want to go to the dance with one of my best friends that is a guy. He and i talk on the phone everynight and like eachother a lot. Since he goes to an all boy school, i was planning on going to his homecoming dance with him, but both dances are on the same day. He didnt really want to skip his and come to mine and i didnt want to skip my dance either. So i thought that we had decided to go with different people and said yes to the guy that had asked me. But then, the next day, my guy friend told me that he would skip his dance to go to mine with me. I dont know what to do, to go with the guy that already asked me or go with the guy i like. I dont want to tell him no after he already asked me and i said yes. But, if i dont go with my other guy friend, he may not get another date and end up sitting on his couch the night of the dance and watching old movie re runs. Can you give me some advice?

Dear Writer,

This answer couldn't be more simple: You must go with the guy you already said yes to. It's the right thing to do.

If this guy worked up the nerve to ask you to homecoming, he probably really likes you. I bet you made his day when you said yes. Backing out now, just to go someplace with another guy, would be awfully cruel and disrespectful of his feelings. Besides which, you made a promise - so keep it.

And don't worry about your guy friend's social life. If he can't get another date for his dance, oh well, he'll live. I don't think you're so worried about that anyway, you just want to spend the eveving with him. Too bad you already made another commitment, which I strongly suggest you keep.
