CRUSH HAS A GIRLFRIEND

Dear Jellybean,

I really love this guy. He is a close friend of mine and 2 years older than me. He unfortunately has a girlfriend who I recently became friends with. He is quite aware of the fact that I love him and is ok with it. So is his girlfriend as long as I stay out of her way. He even said that if he wasn’t dating somone he would be interested in dating me. But I don’t see them breaking up anytime soon and I don’t think I can wait much longer =( What should I do? -Heartbroken

It's hard to say this to you, but... I don't buy it. If this guy was really interested in you, he would dump his girlfriend to date you. I think what he's telling you with his behavior is, he doesn't like you that much, at least in that way. Yes, he's saying something different with his words. But he's your friend, and he doesn't want to hurt your feelings. It's far nicer to say, "I would if I were single". After all, what's he going to say to his friend, "Actually, even if I were single, I wouldn't be interested?"

Bottom line: Sounds like he's just trying to be nice. Get the message, see the reality (he's still dating her), and move on. I don't think there's much hope in waiting around.
