IS SHE SKINNY FOR REAL?

Dear Jellybean,

Ok, my friends all tell me I am really thin, and skinny. But when I look in the mirror, I don't see that. I have rolls on my stomach when i sit, my legs are jigally. I feel porkey, and fatty, and chubby all then time. But then everyone is telling me I am really skinny. Do I have a disorder? Or are my friends just trying to make me feel better by lying.
Help!
Confused

Dear Confused,

Not knowing you personally, I find myself unable to answer your question with authority. I can only take a guess.

It's possible that your friends are just being nice, and flaterring you by saying you're skinny. But if you really were porky, your friends probably wouldn't use the word "skinny". They'd say you looked "good" or "fine", or they'd tell you, "Don't worry, you're normal." Since they're calling you thin and skinny though, I have the feeling that the fat rolls are all in your head.

Do you have a disorder? I don't know. Maybe. I do recommend that you check out the Myjellybean.com article on Anorexia (click here) to see if you recognize any of the warning signals in yourself. The article also gives info on where to get help if you think you have a problem.

Even if you don't have anorexia, you may be overly concerned with your weight. One way to stop obsessing is to focus on getting fit, instead of skinny. Not only do you look better when you're toned and healthily fit, but you have more energy and feel better too. For tips on how to get in better shape, read the Myjellybean.com article Get Your Best Body! (click here).

Finally, do you find that most of your thoughts are about yourself, and your body? Maybe your problem is not your fitness, but your vanity (if I may suggest that). Sometimes, it takes thinking about others, who have serious problems, to kick us out of our disordered thinking. If you're willing to give thinking about others a try, start on Myjellybean.com's Make a Difference" (click here) page, where you'll find articles on changing the world, all by yourself, one little act at a time. It's something that everyone should consider doing... and it sure beats staring at your stomach! :)
