Dear Jellybean,
I am having issues trying to find the right pair of jeans for me. Can you help define what kind of butt you need to have for what kind of jean? Because some have lots of pockets, some don't, some are low rise and some arn't. I'm so confused on what is right for me. And I want to find a pair of jeans that show off my butt, not make it larger. I find angel's jeans from winners help a little but thats just me. Please help.

Dear Mandy,
Finding the right pair of jeans is worth the effort! Every girl can definitely look great in a pair of denims. The secret is knowing what to look for when you hit the stores - and it's not always about hitting the trends. Shopping for jeans is really about finding a pair that plays up your best assets and camouflages your not-so-favorite areas. Here are some tips for finding your personal best pair of jeans.
As you say, waistbands are available in a wide range of "heights" these days. High-rise, low-rise, what's a girl to choose? Again, it's all about knowing what is right for your unique body, not just buying what's trendy. (Sure, supermodels and Mischa Barton might wear those high-waisted pairs, but nobody else should attempt that style). And forget the low-low-rise jeans too. Stylish people aren't really going that low anymore. For most girls, the most flattering waist is a medium-rise that sits on, or slightly below, the hipbones. If you are short-waisted (short upper body, long legs), you can go a little lower, but do the "sit test" in the change room (to see if your butt/undies stick out, or the waist gapes hugely, when you sit down - if so, the jeans aren't a good fit).
To play up a flat butt and make it seem curvier (but not fatter), a good stylist's trick is to choose jeans with eye-catching back-pocket detail. Flap pockets or button pockets give a little "oomph" right where it's needed, but don't make your butt look any wider, so they're perfect. Stiching on back pockets, whether multi-colored or single hue, can also play up a flat behind in the right way. Choose a boot-cut or flared leg, which is young and fresh, as well as giving you an overall more curvy look.
To make a cuvvy butt look fabulous in jeans, start by choosing a darker-wash of denim. You'll also want to choose a pair with some structure, which means not too much stretch. The jeans should fit almost like trousers, sitting on hipbones and flowing down to the floor. Seek a fit that's close, but not tight. Also look for back pockets that are placed a bit high on the butt (which will keep eyes focused on the upper part of your booty). Pockets that are set closely together are also great for you, as they draw the eye toward the center. For the legs, avoid the super-wide-leg jean trend and go for a straight-leg or boot-leg cut for the most flattering effect.
Whatever jeans style you buy, you probably want your legs to look long and lean. Pull this off by buying your jeans in the right length. The bottom of the jean should come within an inch of the ground. If you wear heels most days, try on your jeans with them. The bottom cuff should cover most of your heel. Darker washes of denim also give a taller and slimmer look than faded pairs.
