STYLING SUPER-SHORT HAIR

Dear Jellybean,

I was wondering, how can you style super short hair. My hair is a little farther than my ears, and I want to do some cute things for it for upcoming parties. Please help!!

Dear Short Hair Sally,

Making super-short hair look party-ready is all about texture, and lots of it. So do some experimenting in front of the mirror to see what works on you. Start by adding some texturizing paste or molding mud to your hair, then play around with it. Scrunch it with your hands, sweep some layers onto your face and over one eye, stick it straight up in the air, part it in different places, etc. Mess around tons and if you like, take snaps with your cell or digital camera, so you can look at your looks later on, or ask friends what they think. Here are a few more ideas to try:

Sleek all your hair straight back using a strong holding gel or paste. Use a side part for added style.

Shine, shine, shine! Don't be afraid to add the shine products. Short haired gals don't need to worry about weighing hair down and the shine will add some glamour.

Use a curling iron or hot roller set, and curl hair all over, in that Marilyn Monroe style. When hair cools, rub a small amount of paste onto hands and pat onto the curls. Use fingers to calm any frizz and to place hair where desired. This style looks great with a headband or tiara, or even with small hair gems.

If you can pull off a pretty wild/creative look, do mini-twists. Neatly divide your hair into sections, and twist each section until it begins to twist back on itself. Cross 2 bobby pins over each other to secure each twist. Let the ends of each twist remain spiky. Short hair sticking out at the ends can be smoothed flat with a gel. To hold your hair in position, use a hairspray. For a funkier party look you can also apply streaks of colored hair mascara to your twists.

If your hair is straight, get a cute look by texturizing the front of it. Just add a blob of volumizing mousse and tease the hair up with a comb, then lift it off the forehead and secure it with a pretty hair accessory, like a barrette with flowers. If you don't like that look, just put in some mousse and do a bit of teasing with a comb, to give hair some lift and movement.

If you have bangs, try pinning them to one side (you may have to add some gel first). Or apply a smear of gel and let your bangs fall in chunky pieces over your forehead - very rock.
