Dear Jellybean,
How do i find the right pair of jeans for me? I don't even know what my size is, I am pretty chubby and have heard that dark wash is the best to make a person look slimmer. I'm not sure what stores to shop at, I've already been to Garage and Stitches and stuff, the jeans there don' t really fit me. If they fit from the top, they are too long; and if they are the perfect length, then they wont fit from the top! but i know i can get that fixed/hemmed or watever. How do i figure out my size of jeans, and what stores do u recommend for teens? thanks
-Jeanie
Dear Jeanie,
The best way to find out what jeans look best on you, is to try on a ton of jeans! Forget figuring out your perfect size, because (maddeningly) every brand has their own size guidelines. So what fits you great at Old Navy might be meaningless at H&M, and so on.
Go to every store you can find that carries jeans, and try on every pair you can get your hands on. Here are a few simple guidelines to help you pick the right try-on jeans: Go for a dark wash (it is slimming), wide or bootcut legs, and avoid skinny jeans that are tight on the calves. Jeans with a bit of stretch can also be great for holding you in.
Several jean stores and brands make a "curvy" fit, which you might like, including The Gap. You'll also find dark-wash styles with stretch and wider legs at Esprit and Zara.
Finally, don't forget that jeans can (and often should) be altered! Go for a great fit at the top. If you find a flattering pair, it's a snap to take them to your local dry cleaner's or tailor, and get them shortened.
