Dear Jellybean,
Ok I am turning 13 this summer and recenlty I have noticed that when I wear low cut tops that guys can't seem to look at my face. Or they glance up and down between my eyes and my chest. Even my best guy friend has started doing it. It makes me feel really uncomfortable. Should I stop wearing tops like that? or should I ignore it? How can I get them to stop? its really weird and uncomfortable. Help!
Dear Writer,
Guys will be guys. And teenage guys will be... well, I don't want to say they're all drooling horndogs, but the truth is, lots of them are, a lot of the time. Just like your hormones are making you feel different, and care about different stuff than when you were a kid, guys are dealing with major hormones in their teen years too, and theirs cause them to become obsessed with girls' anatomy.
Yes, it's rude when guys stare at your chest. Yes, they should control their wandering eyes. But most guys of this age simply can't pull that off a hundred percent of the time.
Does this mean that you should walk around all covered up from head to toe? No, it doesn't. But if you're not comfortable with guys looking down your chest, then low-cut tops are not your friends. There's nothing wrong with dressing to express yourself, and wearing whatever you want. But you do have to be realistic. If you put it on display, a lot of guys are going to look and keep looking. That's a fact.
Listen, you're only twelve years old! How low-cut does your top really need to be? I think, not very. Perhaps you could put a little more effort into dressing to look nice without flaunting so much skin. Not only will you get less unwanted attention to certain parts of your body, but people might actually think you look way better. Just saying.
